28 middle school students from the districts of Greenburgh,
Tarrytown, Peekskill and Ossining participated in Great
Potential’s Annual Job Shadow Day held at Purchase

Playwriting Competition
A Great Potential student from Mount Vernon High School
received the Regional Gold Medal for Playwriting through
her participation in the Afro-Academic Cultural, Technological
and Scientific, Olympics (ACT-SO). More...
Spring
2004 – Senior Recognition Ceremony at PepsiCo
Great Potential Seniors were honored and enjoyed breakfast
catered for them by PepsiCo. Many thanks to Ramona Barksdale
who helped to facilitate the event. Our students received
lovely pen sets and caps from PepsiCo and Deluxe Dictionary

2004 In Courage, LLC 1st Annual “Rise” Seminar
Great Potential and In Courage LCC held its first multimedia
seminar entitled "R.I.S.E" (Realistic, Inspirational,
Strategies for Everyday Living) at Purchase College

provide practical motivation and encouragement for the

record broken! WPHS Great Potential Alumnus
Hassan Washington, attending Queens College broke
the record for number of assists in a college basketball
game. It is now set at a high of 18 assists. Great

Site Director’s
Spotlight! - Former Site Director Mr.
Michael Feinberg of WPHS received a plaque for
10 years of dedication and service in Spring 2004.
Ms. Allison Maguire of ALMS worked hard in coordinating
the Aggressive
Learning Workshops held at her school
and did an excellent job. Ms. Sheila Foley of
the White Plains Youth Bureau has been very active
with her students and supportive of our efforts
to update this website by submitting information
regarding field trips and events as well as pictures.

Great Potential Student
Spotlight! - MVHS student Janet Maddox,
winner of the 2004 NAACP-ACTSO regional gold medal
award in playwriting, is well on her way to college.
She will be traveling to Chicago to attend a consortium
of colleges where she will have the opportunity
to interview, audition and meet with college recruiters
from all over the country. Good Luck!
